Festival Ballet Providence’s Educational Outreach programs are designed to introduce students to the art of dance and dance making, as well as connect curriculum in literacy, science and health to the dance experience.  Most programs can be booked as a single in-school performance and/or lecture demonstration, as well as extended 1-8 week residencies.

Fairy Tales (Pre-K - Grade 4)

Discover the way choreographers have told the world’s most famous fairy tales with dance.   Find out how universal fairy tale characters, plots, and settings are all expressed through dance.  Explore The Nutcracker or one of our other seasonal ballets to make storytelling come alive. This program is free to schools bringing 100 or more students to an FBP Discover Dance performance.  Full residencies are also available culminating with a class written original fairy tale ballet performance.


HONK! (Pre-K - Grade 3

Listen to the tale of Mimi the swan who dreams of dancing at the Paris Opera House despite the critics who think the ballet is no place for a swan.  Then learn some of the dance moves performed by the swans in Swan Lake.  This short interactive story time dance along will get everyone dancing and dreaming of greatness.

Dancing Poems (Grades 4-8)

Dance and poetry both convey experiences, ideas and emotions in vivid ways with the use of rhythm, metaphor and imagination.   Bring poetry alive for your class in this workshop which transforms their poems into dances and then back into words.  Lessons on haikus, limerick, or acrostic poetry can all be incorporated.


Voices of Beauty (Grades 6-12)

A collaborative performance between spoken word and dance empowering teens.  Available as a stand alone performance, or an interactive workshop were teens work with poets and dancers to read, write and create works relating to image and self esteem.

Dancing Bugs (Pre-K - Grade 5)

Take a look inside the world of bugs through a little science, a little dance, and a whole lot of fun.  Get your class excited for a science unit on bugs. Sit back, laugh and enjoy a dance performance featuring our favorite bugs, then watch your class move and dance like bugs.

Get Up and Dance (Pre-K - Grade 12)

Spend an hour, a week or a semester in a dancer’s world.  Get an up close and personal look at how dancers train, rehearse, and perform all while keeping their bodies healthy and minds sharp.  Spice up your physical education curriculum and stretch your students to move in creative and challenging ways. Also available as an afterschool enrichment class. 

The World of Ballet

What is ballet?  Where did it come from?  Why do ballerinas dance on their toes?  Get answers to these and many more questions about the world of ballet.  Connecting French language and world history to the art of dance, this is a great program to prepare your students for a field trip to see one of Festival Ballet’s Discover Dance performances.
